This spring the Knoxville News Sentinel ran a story about how West Knoxville grew from a rural farming community to one of the most sought-after locations in the region. Oliver Smith Realty and Auction company played a significant role in helping that growth. In 1965, Oliver Smith Jr. The grandfather of our current owner, Oliver Smith IV, partnered with John Montgomery Sr and P.A. McGinnis to buy a strategic spot… we know that spot today as West Town Mall.
Construction began in 1970 and a brand new, state of the art Mall opened with 600,000 sqft of retail space in 1972. Over the years the property has been expanded. In 1993 a 28 million dollar renovation was the year’s largest construction project.
Today Oliver Smith Realty continues to work with builders, investors and developers to facilitate the kinds of projects that will help Knoxville grow to be the gem of the south.
Here are some of the recent project we are especially excited about:
Kern’s Bakery – A new mixed use restaurant and entertainment venue in South Knoxville
Embassy Suites Downtown – Gay Street’s latest premier hotel property.
